Not what you think you dirty birds…it’s the good old fashioned Ayurvedic remedy of swishing oil around in your mouth, Oil Pulling!

As most viruses, bacteria and disease enter the body through the mouth it is best to eliminate them there. Otherwise they enter the body, fester and do what they do best. Bring you down..

Touch wood, but I have not been sick at all since I started my daily Oil Pulling about 6 months ago. Sounds like I have been having some fun right!

So, the membranes of microorganisms are fat-soluble, not water-soluble. So when you put oil in your mouth and swish it around, it gets into every minuscule space between your teeth, bacteria hiding in crevices, gums, pores and tubules become attached to the oil. When you spit the oil out, you are also disposing of millions of bacteria and viruses!

Oil Pulling is an Ayurvedic practice and has been used for thousands of years. Traditionally Virgin Sesame Oil would be used but I like to use Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. Put 1-2 tablespoons in your mouth, make sure the oil is liquified and not still solidified. Swish it around for 20 mins (do your absolute best not to swallow ANY, this can be tricky at first but just think of all the bacteria you will be swallowing) and then spit out. Be sure to rinse your mouth out well afterwards, rinse again and then brush your teeth. Viola…

I do it upon waking, have a shower, send some emails, make my lunch for work, that kind of thing and before I know it I have sometimes been doing it for 40 mins. Its quiet rhythmic and enjoyable after your first few attempts which might have you gagging a little.

Stop thinking naughty thoughts!

Great for the immune system. A way to whiten the teeth and freshen the breath and improve general oral health. Really beneficial for sinus health, alleviating allergies and detoxifying the lymphatic system. There are loads of other things it can be helpful for too like skin issues, hormone imbalances, digestive issues, the list goes on.

It is great for keeping the body free of toxins and allowing the body to heal itself naturally.

Just something to think about…

What do you think?
